Review: Zone RV’s Expedition Series Camper

A new camper trailer will be available by early 2019 and we couldn’t be more excited. It’s the Expedition Series Camper from Queensland-based Zone RV, an entry-level 10.5ft hard-wall off-road camper. Also considered a hybrid camper, this vehicle features the bush-ability of a camper combined with the quick set-up capability and comfort of a caravan.

Body Construction

The Expedition Series camper trailer boasts a hard body that’s 100% timber free, ensuring that it stays free from deterioration, rotting, or strength inconsistencies. The roof, walls, and floor are all constructed out of four one-piece fibreglass composite panels, all of which are joined together by a bonding technology found only in marine vessels and aircraft. And there is the no-easy-entry canvas – the camper is made in whole with hard composite material to ensure you and your family’s safety, as well as the security of your belongings.

Zone RV Director Dave Biggar said “We wanted to create a sophisticated camper trailer that boasts strength, durability, and quality. The Expedition Series is designed for off-road adventure travel, especially for those wanting to explore the road less travelled in a camper built to withstand the test of time. It’s timber-less, as with all Zone RV caravans, hail resistant, and patch repairable.”

Each of the fibreglass panels has a foam core to provide thermal properties and ensure maximum insulation. Finally, to make all Zone RV caravans become dust and waterproof, Raptor coat is applied to seal all the joints.

The Zone RV Expedition Series Camper also features a Duragal steel chassis, a sloping pop-top roof, 16 inches all-terrain alloy wheels, rear-entry steps, and an insect screen.

Specifications

The single-axle hybrid camper itself is 10 ft and 6 inches long, and about 2.435m in travel height when hitched to a tow car. It has a 1300kg tare weight, Aggregate Tare Mass (ATM) of 2,200kg, a 900kg-payload, and a ball tare weight of 185kg.

The new Zone RV camper also comes with a standard 100Ah lithium battery, a 220W solar roof panels, and an AC/DC 40A charger. The inside space measures 3.06m x 1.93m x 1.5m and is fitted with a number of features to make camping life more convenient for you.

Camper Features

Speaking of features, Zone RV Expedition Series Camper’s cabin is equipped with a marine style composite fridge, hot and cold shower, fusion sound panel, and a double bed with foam mattress.

The camper is also fully equipped with large storage compartments both inside and outside. There are 12V USB ports, a swing-away table, LED lighting, fresh water storage, a sink, and a mixer tap to complete the interior features. Buyers even have an option to fit the cabin with extra features like bedside wardrobe and overhead lockers.

The Zone RV Expedition Series Camper sells at a starting price of $49,000. Consumers have options to include a diesel air heater for $2800, hydraulic disc brakes for $2500, and Cruisemaster Stage 3 ATX airbag suspension for $4850.

“Expedition Series are made-to-order with an integration of systems available; add a queen bed rooftop tent, additional water tank, more solar panels, external ensuite plus more to create a camper designed just for you and your next expedition.” Dave Biggar added.

The Verdict

Expedition Series Camper continues the tradition of Zone RV to deliver 100% timber free caravans and campers for Aussies. Its price is above-average of the same product in the caravan industry, but it’s definitely worth the toughness and durability that this camper can deliver.

It is complete with features to make caravanning and camping more comfortable, especially during the cold months in Australia. The camper is easy to set-up and can handle nearly any off-road situation. This is just the entry-level of the new Expedition series camper and we’re already raving about it. That’s why we’re even more excited about what ZONE RV will bring with the next models of this hybrid camper series.
